"Strawberry Hospital is a one-piece band based in Texas. Strawberry Hospital uses the electronic elements of trancecore reminiscent of the Myspace era, dialled in with the droning riffs and harsh screams of black metal. Such is overlayed with Neptune's down-to-heart lyricism regarding her struggles with identity and emotional vulnerability, delivered with melodic vocals, screams and the use of vocaloid." - aeonanarchy, 3 October 2023
"A seamless merger of fight-starting metalcore riffs with bubbly, euphoric EDM textures, Strawberry Hospital's headsprung soundscapes truly are animated by a spirit of guileless innocence. The music unites opposing extremes with the world-embracing inclination of a wide-eared child – someone blessedly ignorant of the multidecade stigma that long ago separated "happy music" and "sad music" into clashing cultural camps. Brutal blast beats morph imperceptibly into Dance Dance Revolution-style synth pad thumps, and sickly sweet Auto-Tune melodies provide backing harmonics for piercing black metal howls." - Julian Towers, 11 November 2022
"Strawberry Hospital is memorable in just how authentically it communicates the inner conflicts of its author. This friction is predominantly built around frustration over gender identity at a young age, a taxing quest of soul-searching that corkscrews through many phases of traumatic depression right to the brink of self-harm and possibly even beyond. This project doesn't sound like an amateur production by a long shot. A wide margin of half-dozen formulations are made up of powerful gushes of shoegaze guitar that have been lathered in hardcore punk sensibilities and lucid semblances of atmospheric metal. An equally ubiquitous faux-cheery set of trance synths are reminiscent of a forced smile that withers away back into a resting glumness when left alone, and these mewling electronic keys take direct inspiration from the video game soundtracks cited in the musician's own descriptions of this debut album. Touches of screamo vocals, awash with bleached blotches of noise, break loose the chains completely, raging at the unfairness of life with the everlasting question of who they are supposed to be. There's no end to the themes that listeners can decipher in this vein. Strawberry Hospital sings of finding solace in the struggles of fictional beings from the media or the imagination, holding these imaginary friends close when no one else is around in times of personal disturbance. Anything to find freedom from the persecution and pain of a waking purgatory." - duncanreviews, 21 July 2021
